Nigerian oil company Aiteo Group is expected to restart its 60-mile pipeline allegedly affected by fire recently in Nembe Bayelsa State before Monday.
The Nembe Creek Trunk Line (NCTL), which transports crude to the Bonny Crude Oil Terminal, was closed last Thursday due to a power outage.
Aiteo declared Monday the closure did not have anything to do with an explosion and fire that occurred last Friday.
“Any account suggesting that this incident arose from or affected any pipelines is wholly inaccurate and misleading,” it said, in a statement.
News agencies reported last week 50 people were missing after a leaking oil pipeline exploded. They were told by local council spokesman Chief Nengi James-Eriworio there was a blast Friday which caused a massive oil spill.
Bloomberg reported Wednesday the pipeline is expected to reopen at the end of the week.
Aiteo Group and Bonny Terminal authorities could not be reached for comment.
