Hundreds of staff of Nigerian capital market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)shut down activities at the commission's head office in Abuja, in a move to prevent the resumption into office the suspended director general, Munir Gawrzo.
National Industrial Court in Abuja last week ordered the reinstatement of Gawrzo into office following a ruling which nullified his suspension by a former finance minister.
Kemi Adeosun had set up a panel to investigate allegations of improprieties against Gawrzo and the report of the panel indicted him for abuse of office and corruption.
Subsequently, the ex-minister slammed a suspension of the DG pending prosecution by the country's anti-graft agency.
Gawrzor was also indicted by the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee, which investigated his suspension by the former Minister of Finance.
However, Justice Sanusi Kado of the Abuja NIC, in his judgment, held that the Minister of finance, named as second defendant in the suit lacked the power to suspend the claimant and therefore ordered his reinstatement into office.Kado, who dismissed three issues raised by defence counsel through their preliminary objection, ruled that the the suit was not status barred.
