MTN Nigeria Takes The Lead In New Internet Users, 9Mobile Loses Subscribers

More people in Nigeria are embracing internet usage, according to the latest data released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the figure for internet users increased to 119.51 million in April compared with 115.94 million the previous month.

The industry regulator said the new data showed that 3,568,205 new subscribers joined internet platform in the month of April.
In its Monthly Internet Subscribers' Data for April, the NCC noted that telecoms firms such as Airtel, MTN and Globacom were the beneficiaries of the increased in internet users in April, while more people migrated from the 9mobile platform in the period under review.
The local unit of South African telecoms firm MTN Nigeria gained the most with subscribers on its platform jumped to 50.026 million in April from 46.55 million in the previous month.
Globacom came distance second with gained 191,005 new subscribers in the month of April to increase users on its platform to 28.63 million, while Airtel gained 94,412 new subscribers to increase its tally to 31.34 million subscribers in the month of April.
However, 9Mobile lost 201,050 subscribers in April with the total internet users on its platform declined to 9.44 million in April compared with 9.64 million users in March,
The data revealed that Visafone recorded 73,646 in April as against 64,076 in March.
