Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele on Monday said he plans to unvail a robust new roadmap for the regulatory bank and the country's economy in the days ahead, after consultations with critical stakeholder groups.
Emefiele spoke after he was sworn in for a second term of five years as the governor of the apex bank in Abuja by the bank's Secretary and Director, Corporate Secretariat Department, Mrs Alice Karau.
According to a statement by the bank's spokesman, Isaac Okorafor quoted Emefiele as saying that the bank’s will focus on playing an active role in supporting job and wealth creation in Nigeria.
“We must also work to build a healthy and stable financial system that will contribute to the growth of our economy while preserving price stability,” he said.
Emefiele was nominated by President Mohammadu Buhari last month for a second term of five years, while the Senate approved the appointment.
Emefiele becomes the first CBN Governor to be so appointed for a second term since the advent of democracy in 1999.
This is also the first time a public swearing-in of a governor of the regulatory bank accompanied with a fanfare will be conducted in the anal of the bank.
He was first appointed on June 2, 2014, by the then President Goodluck Jonathan to replace the former governor, now Emire of Kano, Lamido Sanusi who was suspended from office over his allegation that state-oil firm NNPC failed to remit $20 billion into the federation account.
