Nigeria Has 2nd Largest Number Of Child Brides —UNICEF

The United Nations Children’s (UNICEF) Fund says Nigeria has the second-largest number of child brides in the world, with 23 million girls and women married out as children in the country, thereby ending their educational strive.
Bhanu Pathak, Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Nigeria, Bauchi Field Office, stated this in Bauchi State on Saturday at a Youth Talk organised in commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
“Too many Nigerian children and young people are being left behind, especially when it comes to education.
“Nigeria has the world’s highest number of out-of-school children; more than 10.5 million Nigerian children are not in school.
“Nigeria also has the second largest number of child brides in the world with 23 million girls and women married as children, and as such, ending their education,” said Pathak.
He reiterated UNICEF’s resolve to foster a stronger partnership with the Nigerian government at the federal and state levels for the realisation of children’s rights.
In his remarks, Sagir Musa, the President, Youth Advocates For Education, Bauchi, said, the challenges of young people included high rate of unemployment, lack of basic life skills, drug abuse, political thuggery and illiteracy among others.
He commended the state government for collaborating with UNICEF, Bauchi Field Office, to organise such forum which gave young people the opportunity to have their voices heard and take decisions on matters that affected their lives.
That the ceremony was organised by UNICEF and Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board.
The Youth Talk, which is tagged ‘The Nigeria We Want: Voices from Bauchi’, was sponsored by United Kingdom Department for International Development, with participants from six states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Plateau and Taraba States.

Sexual Predators Liable To 14-Year Jail Term, New Law Before Senate

A new law to criminalise sexual harassment and rape in the tertiary institutions in the country has passed the second reading on the floor of the Senate and has prescribed a 14-year jail term for offenders.
The bill, being sponsored by the Senate deputy president Ovie Omo-Agege, is entitled "A Bill for an Act to Prevent, Prohibit and Redress Sexual Harassment of Students in Tertiary Educational Institutions and for other matters connected therewith 2019.”
According to a statement by the media office of the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, the bill has 27 clauses.
The bill proposes up to 14 years jail term, with a minimum of 5 years, without an option of fine for any educator who commits sexual offences in tertiary institutions.
The bill defines sexual offences as including sexual intercourse with a student or demands for sex from a student or a prospective student or intimidating or creating a hostile or offensive environment for the student by soliciting for sex or making sexual advances.
Other forms of sexual harassment identified in the bill are grabbing, hugging, kissing, rubbing, stroking, touching, pinching the breasts or hair or lips or hips or buttocks or any other sensual part of the body of a student; or sending by hand or courier or electronic or any other means naked or sexually explicit pictures or videos or sex-related objects to a student, and whistling or winking at a student or screaming, exclaiming, joking or making sexually complimentary or uncomplimentary remarks about a student’s physique or stalking a student.
Senator Omo-Agege, while leading debate on the bill, said “the most effective way to deal with the offence of sexual harassment in our tertiary institutions is to penalise the very impropriety of the act, with or without consent.”
According to him, sexual harassment must be defined in tertiary educational institutions as statutory rape with strict liability for offenders to be prosecuted easily.
On the suggestion for the extension of the bill to primary, secondary schools, worship centres and workplaces, Omo-Agege said doing so will not be necessary because the Criminal and Penal codes already adequately deals with these categories with sufficient clarity.
He, however, stressed that the bill prescribes expulsion for students who falsely accuse educators of sexual harassment.
“An educator whose character is maligned is at liberty to sue for defamation under the law of defamation which is well-settled in our jurisprudence and needs no duplication in this bill.”

Girls As Young As 12 Were Strip-Searched By Australian Police

Girls as young as 12 have been strip-searched by the police in Australia’s most populous state in recent years, according to data released on Wednesday, a revelation that spurred new criticism of a tactic frequently used to hunt for drugs at places like music festivals.
The police minister for the state of New South Wales, David Elliott, acknowledged that officers had not always abided by standard procedures in conducting strip searches of children, which are legal if the circumstances are urgent and a parent or guardian is present.
But he said that if drugs were uncovered in the process, parents would nonetheless be happy. “I’ve got young children, and if I thought that the police felt that they were at risk of doing something wrong, I’d want them strip-searched,” he said.
Civil liberties advocates strenuously disagreed. They called the searches an invasive overstep of paternalistic police powers that leave psychological trauma. They also said laws allowing the tactic reflected a zero-tolerance drug policy that is doing more harm than good.
“It’s the only form of legislation that allows an adult to tell a young child to take off all their clothes,” said Samantha Lee, the head of the Police Accountability Practice at the Redfern Legal Center, which obtained the data through a freedom of information request. “If it was any other circumstance, the law would come down hard and heavy.”
From mid-2016 to mid-2019 in New South Wales, a state of 7.5 million people, 122 girls under the age of 18 were strip-searched in places outside police stations. Among them were two 12-year-olds and eight 13-year-olds. Searches of boys were not included in the data.
The new statistics follow months of increasing scrutiny of the growing practice of strip searches by police officers. From mid-2005 to mid-2018, such searches in New South Wales, which includes Sydney, increased almost twentyfold. In about two-thirds of cases, the police did not find illegal drugs.
While strip searches occur in most of Australia, festivals in New South Wales have become infamous for them, with police officers often patrolling with drug detection dogs. But critics said that such searches, which have also occurred at parks and train stations, should not be routinely conducted for the relatively minor offense of drug possession.
"It’s highly likely the vast majority of strip searches are being conducted unlawfully,” said Vicki Sentas, a senior law lecturer at the University of New South Wales who has researched strip-searching statistics.
In an inquiry conducted last month by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission, a 16-year-old girl who attended a festival said she was asked to squat and cough in front of a police officer. She had no drugs.
“I could not stop crying. I was completely humiliated,” she said, according to her complaint. An officer who worked at the festival admitted that some of the searches he conducted may have been unlawful.
Mark Speakman, the state’s attorney general, said that strip searches in general were an “important investigative tool” but that the police needed to “get the balance right.”
Tyson Koh, the leader of Keep Sydney Open, a political party critical of strip searches at festivals, said it was time to scrutinize such arguments.
“For the longest time, people have been willing to put up with it because it’s been sold as being for the greater good,” Mr. Koh said. “More people are really starting to question police and government in these situations.”
Ms. Lee, of the Redfern Legal Center, has called for changes to legislation that would specify under which circumstances strip searches could occur and require court orders for children to be searched.
“The problem has been left to fester for many years,” she said. “It’s time the police force caught up.”

Fire Outbreak At Lagos Balogun Market

A Fire outbreak has been reported at a shopping complex on Martin Street, popularly called Balogun Market on the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.
It was learnt that men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and Lagos State Fire Service have been deployed to put out the inferno.
Many traders, our correspondent learnt, had been struggling to salvage some of their goods from the burning building.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage had yet to be ascertained as of press time.
The spokespersons for LASEMA and the fire service, Nosa Okubor, and Adeleke Ashimi, respectively, confirmed the incident.
However, Ashimi added that another complex on Dosumu Street, about 500 meters from Martin Street, was also on fire.
“Our men are on their way there as well. We don’t know the extent of the fire yet,” she added.
Sources, however, confirmed that some traders were seen making frantic efforts to rescue part of their goods before the fire reach their portion of the building.
Already, millions of naira worth of goods have been destroyed by fire with emergency workers making efforts to put the fire under check.

Lagos, Edo, Delta, Others To Experience More Flooding

Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has warned Nigerians, especially residents of Edo, Delta, Rivers, Anambra and Bayelsa states, to prepare for more flooding in the coming days.
It said it is due to water released from the Lagdo dam in Cameroon.
Residents of the Lekki area of Lagos and other parts of the state will also experience some flooding, the agency said.
NIHSA Director-General Clement Onyeaso Eze, at a news conference in Abuja, blamed the Cameroonian authorities for the flooding, which he said has ravaged communities in Adamawa, Taraba and Benue states.
He accused Cameroon of breaching a memorandum of understanding on the release of the water.
Eze said even when his agency made enquiries, the Cameroonian authorities first denied releasing water from any of its dams but later admitted doing so after series of enquiries backed by video evidence of the rising water level along the River Benue.
According to him, the Cameroonian authorities may have envisaged the situation when they advised the Nigerian government to construct a buffer dam to absolve whatever water may be released from the Lagdo dam.
“Parts of Adamawa State has been submerged; Taraba is affected adversely, as well as Benue State.
“As a result of the spilling of water from the Lagdo dam, the entire territory within Nigeria that are contiguous to River Benue in Adamawa, Taraba and Benue states have been adversely affected.
“The essence of this briefing is to inform Nigerians, especially states that are contiguous to River Benue and River Niger, that there was a release of water from Cameroon and having converged in Lokoja, those who passed Lokoja reported that before the Kotokarfe bridge, the communities have already been submerged and the waters have started crossing the road. That is what caused the flooding in Nigeria at this time.
“What does this portend for states downstream Kogi State? The excess water from Lagdo dam that has arrived Nigeria will be moving down to the states and communities downstream Lokoja as a town. Edo State, especially Agenebode axis, Anambra state, going through Onitsha, Delta state, Rivers and then Bayelsa, will be affected.
“The flood that occurred in Adamawa state will eventually get to them. So, we are not yet out of the flooding season because of the release of water from Lagdo dam. So, the flood will continue in these areas.”
“The agency wishes to advise the following states downstream Kogi State, namely Edo, Delta, Anambra, Rivers and Bayelsa states to be on the watch out. They are placed on red alert because the flood in faraway Adamawa state will find its way down to these states before emptying into the Atlantic ocean.
“The rainy season within the southern part of Nigeria will continue and may continue till December in some places, which mean a combination of the flooding caused by the release from the dam and the rainfall within these areas will still aggravate the flooding in these locations.
“By this time in 2018, the flood level in Nigeria has generally gone down, the same with 2012 when we had the biggest flooding season ever in Nigeria. So, the southern states of the country and Kogi state are not yet free.
“The Cameroonian authorities envisaged what is happening now and advised Nigeria to construct their dam within their territory. A dam serves several purposes, like irrigation, flood control, hydropower and others.
“Unfortunately it has remained on the drawing board. What we have advised is that to build such a dam will take so much. The Mambilla dam which is supposed to generate about 3000 megawatts of electricity is costing nothing less than $5 billion. So, we have been advocating for having small earth dams on the tributary of River Benue within Nigeria.”

FRSC Working With Police, Army To Curb Robbery On Long-Bridge

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Sector Command, has said that it is working with the Nigeria Police and the military to counter robbery attacks on the Long Bridge, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Robbers cash in on gridlock between the Long Bridge and Berger Bus-stop on the expressway to dispossess motorists and commuters of their valuables.
The section is currently undergoing reconstruction by the Federal Government, hence the partial closure which causes gridlock on the ever-busy highway.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Hyginus Omeje said on Monday in Lagos that the corps was aware of the incidences of robbery attacks against motorists on the Long Bridge and had risen to the situation.
According to him, since FRSC officers do not carry arms, the corps is working with relevant agencies to clamp down on the miscreants who capitalise on the gridlock to rob people.
“Whatever we need to do to reduce gridlock across the state, we have to do it. It is because of this gridlock that miscreants attack people in traffic.
“Some of these miscreants are armed to dispossess people of their jewellery, phones and other valuables.
“We are aware of that and we are working with relevant sister agencies, the Nigeria Police and even the military so that they can continue to provide security there since FRSC does not carry arms,’’ Omeje said.
“Ours is to ensure that the gridlock that the criminals are capitalising on is removed from the road. If the traffic is flowing, nobody will come and attack anyone.”

Youths Attack Obaseki, Oba of Lagos At Oshiomhole’s Country Home

Some unknown youths on Saturday attacked the convoy of Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu at Iyamoh on their way to the country home of the All Progressive Congress (APC) National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole.
The youth were said to have carried out at reprisal attack on the governor convoy when the noticed the presence of the man alleged to have led the attack on Oshiomole home in Benin, Andrew Momodu.
Oba Rilwan Akiolu and Governor Obaseki and Pro-Chancellor of Edo University, Iyamoh, Prof. T.O.K Audu were in a convoy on their way to Oshiomole house for a pre-arranged lunch with the APC chairman.
The governor and the other guests had attended the maiden convocation ceremony of the Edo University, Iyamoh, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
An eyewitness to the fracas said that the Oba of Lagos and the governor had gone to Comrade Oshiomhole’s house to honour the former governor’s invitation for lunch after the ceremony at the university.
According to him, “The governor, the Oba of Lagos and other guests had gone to Oshiomhole’s house for lunch when they were attacked by thugs led by one Romeo, said to be one of Oshiomhole’s cousins.”
It took the intervention of the governor’s security aides to prevent a blood bath as several vehicles were smashed by the thugs.
Another eyewitness however said the crisis was triggered by the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu who had allegedly led over two hundred Okada riders to the venue of convocation in the morning.
The Deputy Governor and the Okada men were said to have been dispersed by policemen who fired tear gas at them.
“But the Deputy Governor found his way inside, he was the one who led the Okada men from various parts of the state to the venue. So when the youths saw Momodu who was the Governor’s CSO in the convoy, they got angry,” he said.

Report Says One In Ten Men Has Problems Fathering A Child

* For most men suffering infertility from low sperm count, the damage was done while in the womb
* Processes involved in forming reproductive organs can be disrupted in early months of pregnancy
* This also significantly raises men’s risk of illnesses such as cancer in later life

Men trying for fatherhood receive a wealth of lifestyle advice on how best to boost their fertility — wear loose-fitting underpants, avoid hot baths, get a good night’s sleep and steer clear of junk food.
It is advice backed by research — including a study in June, led by Harvard University in the U.S., which found that men (the average age was 19) who ate the most red and processed meat, sugary drinks and starchy carbohydrates had the lowest average sperm counts. On average, these were 25.6 million lower than those who ate the least processed food. (A count of 39 million sperm is normally considered the minimum required to conceive naturally.)
However, scientists are now uncovering a far more worrying truth. It seems that for most men suffering infertility from a low sperm count, the damage was done decades earlier — while they were still in the womb.
Evidence increasingly shows that the delicate processes involved in forming their reproductive organs can be disrupted in the early months of pregnancy, inflicting damage that can harm their chances of fatherhood.
Moreover, new studies suggest that this not only sends their sperm counts plummeting, it also significantly raises men’s risk of serious illnesses such as cardiovascular disease and cancer in later life.
Male fertility is clearly in crisis. A comprehensive review of evidence in 2017, based on 7,500 studies, shows that sperm counts among Western men have more than halved over the past 40 years. The review authors, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the journal Human Reproduction Update, warned that the decline shows ‘no evidence of abating’.
In the UK, around one in ten men of all ages suffers from infertility (defined as unsuccessfully attempting pregnancy for a year or longer), according to research from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine published in the journal Human Reproduction in 2016.
Other studies indicate that as many as one in five men under 35 has a low sperm count.
British infertility experts are now beginning to explore the root causes of this 21st century plague. Already much of the evidence points to chemical pollutants in the air, water and ground around us as the prime culprit.
There is also evidence that parents’ pre-conception lifestyles may affect their children’s health, and even their fertility, and that the problems may be passed on through the parents’ sperm or eggs by changes in the DNA (known as epigenetic changes).
BORN TO GROW UP INFERTILE?
Today, scientists are starting to discover how the physical damage from these environmental factors or epigenetic changes may begin to develop in the womb.
A leading investigator is Alastair Sutcliffe, professor of general paediatrics at University College London, who is studying data from more then 200,000 men held by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority. He believes that there is a problem of prenatal genetic damage underlying male infertility.
‘Lifestyle is inevitably going to have some impact on your fertility,’ he says. ‘But I think most of the problems with these men probably go back to their days in their mothers’ wombs. For whatever reason, they did not have the right conditions in there.’
This may also have implications for their health.
‘Between 10 and 15 percent of the male genome [the complete set of a man’s DNA] is involved in reproduction,’ says Professor Sutcliffe.
‘If you have a problem with the reproductive side of your genome, then that is probably a window into what’s happening with the whole genome of an individual, so sub-fertile men may have other health issues that are driven by problem genes.’
Indeed, evidence is emerging to link early DNA damage to infertility to men’s subsequent serious illnesses. Last month, for example, a study in the British Medical Journal reported that men with fertility issues face a far higher risk of prostate cancer in later life.
The study of more than 1.2 million men, by researchers from Lund University in Sweden, found that men who became fathers through fertility treatment (IVF or injection of sperm directly into the egg) were far more likely to develop prostate cancer than men whose children were conceived naturally.
INFERTILITY A RED FLAG FOR DISEASE
Professor Sutcliffe believes that risk for diseases such as testicular and prostate cancers may be primed in the womb by the same genetic problems that render men infertile.
He explains: ‘Testicular cancer is an embryonic cancer — which means it is precipitated during development in the womb. But it waits until puberty to begin developing.
‘The risk is written very early in utero. Something similar may be true with prostate cancer.’
As a result, Professor Sutcliffe thinks we may have ‘an obligation’ to screen men for conditions such as prostate cancer in fertility clinics if they are found to have low sperm counts. ‘If their risk of prostate cancer is higher and we can treat their problems before they become serious, we should look for them.’
This finding is only one of a growing number of studies that links low sperm counts in men in their 20s and 30s to serious illness in later life.
In March, researchers at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore in the U.S. reported that men who suffer infertility also have a significantly raised risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) — a build-up of fat in the liver which can lead to serious liver damage.
NAFLD is associated with a high risk of other serious conditions such as type 2 diabetes and kidney disease, and is linked to poor diet, lack of exercise and weight gain.
But it may also be that some men are born more susceptible than others. The U.S. researchers suggest that male infertility and NAFLD may be precipitated by the same underlying physiological problems.
Another study last August, of 60,000 infertile men, by British and U.S. scientists, found that those who had undergone vasectomies were at greater risk of high blood pressure and heart disease compared with ones who hadn’t.
This comparison indicates that low or non-existent sperm counts are not themselves the cause of the men’s cardiovascular dangers.
The links between infertility and later ill-health have become compellingly powerful, Christopher Barratt, a fertility researcher and professor of reproductive medicine at Dundee University told Good Health.
‘We have been looking at infertility for a long time, but only recently has attention become more focused on general health,’ he says. ‘The data on this is getting stronger and suggests that if you’ve got sperm problems, you are statistically likely to have more health issues and a greater risk of premature death.’
SO IS PREVIOUS ADVICE WRONG?
What is to become of all the advice for men about protecting their fertility by taking precautions such as wearing loose underpants (to stop overheated testicles killing sperm), cutting out junk food, and so on?
Allan Pacey, professor of andrology at the University of Sheffield, and Britain’s foremost commentator on male fertility, says the advice may still play a crucial role for some men — but we should also face up to the fact that prenatal development now seems to play the major role in determining men’s fertility.
It is known that early pregnancy is a vulnerable period for the healthy development of male reproductive organs. Exposure to plastic is implicated, and mothers’ stress levels have come under the spotlight.
In May, an Australian study of 643 men aged 20 warned in the journal Human Reproduction that men whose mothers were exposed to three or more stressful life events in the first 18 weeks of pregnancy may have an average 38 per cent reduction in the number of sperm as adults.
Professor Pacey told Good Health: ‘I think the single biggest factor is what happens before a man was born — regarding how his testicles were developed. This is determined by how well that first trimester of pregnancy went for him.
‘How that pregnancy expressed itself in a man is determined by the size of his testicles, because that is a result of how they developed in the womb. If you have bigger testicles you produce more sperm — and the more likely they are to produce a baby.
‘If your testicles are small, then that’s likely to be problematic.’
Professor Pacey says that clinics can precisely measure testicle size, but adds: ‘For people at home, the best thing is to measure the testicle inside the scrotum against a lychee. That size is about the minimum volume required for unassisted fertility. Anything smaller may mean problems.’
The significance of this is that, ‘for men who are trying for a family in their late 20s and early 30s, their fertility is already set pretty much completely’, he says.
‘The big issue that doesn’t get publicised is that lifestyle changes have not been proven to make a difference in actually fathering children. If they do make a difference, then it will be comparatively small.’
He explains frankly: ‘All that men can do with lifestyle changes is to protect and promote the testicular function they were born with. It’s about risk reduction.
‘If you have small testicles, your chance of infertility is higher and you have more risk to protect against. A 10 percent reduction of testicular efficiency, for example, is going to have a much greater fertility impact on a man with small testicles than a man with large ones.
‘On the other hand, if men adopt good health habits, then it could help their health in later life.’
So while ‘Look after your swimmers’ may appeal to men’s natural desire to protect their fertility, it may also help keep them healthier in old age. And where’s the harm in that?

Flood Aids 200 Inmates Escape From Kogi Prison

The early Monday morning downpour in Koton-Karfe, Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State, has created an opportunity for the escape of about 200 prisoners from the Medium Federal Correctional Centre.
This follows the collapse of parts of the building housing inmates.
Several houses in the area were also submerged.
A source at the correctional facility, however, told our correspondent that about 100 of the escapees have been rearrested.
The source added that an unspecified number voluntarily returned.
It was gathered that the downpour which lasted hours started around 2a.m, destroying many houses including parts of the correctional center, in its wake.
The Acting Chief Imam of Koton-Karfi central mosque, Saidu Suleiman Nuhu told our correspondent that the heavy downpour led to the River Osugu overflowing itself, flooding the embarkment and destroy so many houses, including a part of the correctional centre.
Efforts to speak with the authorities of the correctional centre proved abortive as they refused to speak on the situation.
A source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, however, disclosed that about 100 of the inmates that escaped have been rearrested by the security agents.

Five Women Reveal Why They Cheat On Their Partners

Hundreds of women have taken to Reddit to reveal the real reasons they cheated on their partners.
Some said they strayed because they felt ignored or stifled while others said they realised they preferred multiple lovers.
A report by Sexual Health Australia revealed affairs were common, with data showing 60 percent of men and 45 percent of women having strayed outside their primary relationships.
FEMAIL selected five stories which outlined the main justifications women gave for their infidelities - and what resulted from their decisions.
One woman who took to online forum explained the reason she cheated on her partner was because of his 'suffocating' behaviour.
She said her 'crazy boyfriend' was determined to control her every movement and he seemed obsessed with what she was doing or where she was '24/7'.
'He would spam call me and "like" comments/photos/etc on Facebook and message my friend,' she said.
She revealed his 'controlling, psycho mind game attitude' basically 'drove' her to cheat.
'I was a chronic cheater'
Another woman speaking on the thread revealed she was a 'chronic cheater.
She said she was not driven to be unfaithful per se, but had not discovered a 'model' for how to have polyamorous relationships.
'Once I discovered the polyamory model and began to live it, all of my cheating stopped,' said woman.
'He paid attention to me'
A third revealed how feeling ignored by her partner after the 'honeymoon phase wore off', drove her to the arms of another.
While she said she had not actively been looking to meet someone else, she hit it off with a man she met online who she was buying furniture from.
'The thing is, even after that first time, I kept wanting to see him. He paid attention to me and even cooked me dinner and set up a candlelit bath for us,' she said.
The woman said although she attempted to keep up the 'charade' once her partner returned from business, being a terrible actor meant she eventually caved and told him she had been unfaithful.
'I needed to explore'
One woman shared how she cheated on her partner because she had met him when she was far too young and the relationship had been too serious.
'For me personally, I needed to go out and explore myself sexually and even in different relationship dynamics,' she wrote.
She said cheating gave her an 'easy way out' as at the time she wasn't prepared to end the relationship.
'It was a confusing time in my adult life as he was my best friend and we had no real issues,' she said.
'I suffered from "what if"'
Lastly, one revealed cheating on her partner was simply a matter of putting paid to the question of 'what if'.
Contrary to others sharing on the thread, the woman said she was not only happy in her relationship, she was 'in love'.
'But for some reason, I had a nagging thought of "what if" I had been with this other guy?' She said.
Eventually, her curiosity got the better of her and she said in a 'weak moment' the pair got together.
'Frankly, the sex wasn’t that great, probably because the whole situation felt wrong to me. I regretted it immediately, and felt horribly guilty.'

EFCC Accuses Fayose Of Compromising Witness In Fraud Case

Nigeria's anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused ex-governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose of going behind to threaten and compromise one of the prosecution witnesses in the N2.2 billion fraud case against the former governor.
Rotimi Jacobs, who is the EFFC prosecuting counsel told Justice C.J. Aneke that the anti-graft agency had decided to use another witness in the place of the one allegedly compromised by Fayose.
Jacobs alleged that the defendant went behind to meet and threaten the witness, Adewale Aladegbola, a bullion van driver with Zenith Bank, Ado Ekiti branch.
The prosecutor said as a result of the alleged threat when Aladegbola appeared before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun, who was earlier hearing the case, the witness turned around in his testimony to give different evidence from what he wrote in his statement at the EFCC office during the investigation.
Jacobs accused Fayose of attempting to pervert the course of justice, saying, “If not because of my intervention, this defendant would have been facing another charge.”

Court Jails School Supervisor 60 Years For Child Defilement

A Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos has sentenced a school supervisor, Adegboyega Adenekan, 47, to 60 years imprisonment for child defilement.

Justice Sybil Nwaka handed down the sentence after convicting Adenekan of a lone count charge of defiling a two-year and 11-month-old pupil of Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos.
Justice Nwaka, in her judgment, held that the prosecution has proven its case of defilement against the convict beyond a reasonable doubt.
“The basic elements to consider in this case is that the accused had sex with the child; that there was penetration; that the evidence of the child must be corroborated.
She quoted from what the victim said in her testimony.
“The victim, in her evidence before the court, said that Mr Adenakan put his mouth in her weewee. She said Adenekan put his hand in her wee-wee (vagina). She also said that the supervisor put his mouth in the vagina of her best friend, Jenita.
“The little girl said that Adenekan covered her mouth like this when she attempted to shout. And that he (the defendant) defiled her twice inside the school premise, at his office, and at the hallway”.
According to the judge, the evidence of the child that the defendant defiled her twice was evidently corroborated by the medical report from Mirabel Center.
“I have no doubt in mind that this defendant, Adenekan is the same person the victim said put his hand in her weewee.
Justice Nwaka, while not holding to pieces of evidence of other prosecuting witnesses held that the evidence of the victim was not shaken as there are no two Mr Adenekan in the school.
She held that the medical report showed healing wounds in the victim’s hymen.
The court held that Adenekan himself in his defence confirmed knowing the victim and her two friends, Jacinta and Precious.
She noted that the victim confirmed that the convict also did same thing to them and that Jacinta’s mother declined to partake in prosecution to avoid trauma and stigmatisation.
” I am convinced that the three children revolve around Adenekan and Adenekan was a recurring decimal with them. Jacinta was the child the victim said she saw Adenekan putting his mouth in her weewee.
“I am convinced that it was because of the convict that Jacinta and Precious parents withdrew them from the school”, she held.
“Prosecution has proved his case and therefore, the defendant is hereby convicted accordingly.
The defence counsel Richard Abdulahi declined to make allocutus.
” At this point, my Lord, the defence team had no alloctus on behalf of the defendant and urged the court to sentence at its discretion”.
But the prosecution, B.T. Boye urged the court to allow justice to prevail in the matter.
He said it would serve as a deterrent to perpetrators of sexual abuse of children in schools.
Delivering judgment, Justice Nwaka said, “the defendant Adegboyega Adenekan is hereby sentenced to 60 years imprisonment’.
Drama ensued immediately the judge rose after pronouncing sentence. Adenekan shouted: “Glory be to God, Glory be to God, Glory be to God in the highest. Judgment has been pronounced on me, Lord, I present this judgment before you.
” God, you know I am innocent but you are the ultimate Judge.
“I give glory to God because I did not defile her. Her mother tutored her. Let God give me another judgment”, he shouted.
The courtroom equally became noisy as family members reign curses on all those who they alleged teamed up to ensure that Adenekan was jailed.

Do You Experience Painful Sex? Solution Is Here For You

* Tracey Cox revealed why increasing numbers of women are finding sex painful
* The sexpert gave her top ten tips on how to make intercourse more pleasurable
* Her advice included doubling the time spent on foreplay and using a 'buffer'

Sex is supposed to be something you look forward to.
But for the many women who find it painful, sex is something they dread.
A Durex survey earlier this year of more than 1200 UK adults found that 73 percent of women in UK find sex uncomfortable.
With one third saying pain is hindering their libido and one in 10 say it’s having an adverse effect on their relationship.
One of the primary causes of sexual discomfort is vaginal dryness, estimated to affect between 20 and 40 per cent of women aged 17 to 50.
Tense vaginal muscles – caused by not being fully aroused, anxiety, over painful sex in the past, or past trauma like sexual assault - can also cause pain at any age.
Other causes of painful sex include vaginismus (an involuntary tightening of the outer third of the vagina that makes penetration difficult or impossible), high-tone, pelvic floor dysfunction (when the muscles that support the vagina, bladder, and rectum become tense and can’t relax) and yeast infections, cystitis or STI’s (which make our vaginas feel sore and irritated).
Then there is pelvic pain is caused by adhesions, endometriosis (scar tissue), fibroids and cysts. Hysterectomy and other pelvic surgery can sometimes end up making intercourse painful. As can some cancer treatments.
The list of causes is long, exhaustive – and exhausting and frustrating for sufferers.
Happily, there’s a lot you can do to alleviate the problem.
10 WAYS TO PREVENT PAINFUL SEX
Ask what’s available to treat your specific condition.
Drug names and treatments change constantly, so there’s no point in me naming specific medications, but there usually is a treatment for most conditions.
It might be a pill or cream or vaginal pessary. It might involve doing some ‘homework’, like pelvic floor exercises.
Sometimes, though, the treatment doesn’t work – or there isn’t one.
In that case, the only option might be to avoid intercourse entirely and redefine sex.
That sounds extreme but it’s completely possible to enjoy non-penetrative sex sessions – some women enjoy them more than they did sex that revolved around intercourse.
Mutual masturbation, oral sex, extended foreplay – intercourse isn’t the only sexual activity that ends in orgasm!
Always add lube before penetration.
Just one third of women in the Durex study said they’d use lube with a partner – despite nine in 10 saying sex felt better when they did.
This is bonkers.
Both men and women are guilty of thinking that not being ‘wet’ means you’re not ‘turned on enough’ or that there’s something ‘wrong’ with you.
False.
You can be aroused and still not be wet: it all depends on what’s causing the vaginal dryness.
If you don’t want your partner to know you’re using lube (and quite frankly, I’d ditch my partner rather than the lube if they had a problem with it), insert it high into the vagina five minutes before you have sex and let it work its way down naturally.
Using lube is an essential, not a luxury.
You might also want to team it with a vaginal moisturiser.
They’re different from lubes: you use them even when you’re not having sex to keep everything moist and comfortable.
Go for one that doesn’t contain parabens or aspartame and insert before bedtime.
Double the time you spend on foreplay
Skilful foreplay is enormously important and certainly helps to make intercourse feel far more comfortable.
Forty-two percent of the women in the Durex survey blamed their partner for painful sex caused by dryness, saying they ‘didn’t know how to pleasure them’.
This might be true. But if it is, speak up!
Tell them what techniques work for you and what don’t.
Your partner isn’t a mind reader: be honest about what’s enjoyable and what isn’t.
Take time to relax into sex.
Put some lubricant on the head of his penis and use it to stroke the vulva, over the clitoris and around the opening, to get ready for penetration.
Don’t rush it, take it slowly.
Having an orgasm before penetration also helps to relax the vagina.
Choose positions that don’t allow deep penetration.
The position chosen accounts for 42 percent of women’s pain on penetration.
Any position where you’re in control, rather than him, works (you on top, for instance). Otherwise, choose positions where you’re both lying fairly flat with your own legs quite close together.
Spooning sex works well, as does doggy style but with both of you lying flat with his legs on either side of yours.
Practice relaxing your vaginal muscles.
It’s a good idea to do pelvic floor exercises: repetitively squeezing and releasing the same muscles you use to cut off a flow of urine.
Most women assume it’s the ‘squeeze’ that’s the most important part of ‘kegel’ exercises but the ‘release’ part is just as important.
Take your time when doing them and consciously relax the muscles around your vagina.
Breathe. Focus.
Use a kegel training kit
Go one step further to build muscle strength in your pelvic floor: this will also help to prevent pain.
Kegel training kits are weighted, insertable balls. You start on the lightest weight and build up to the heaviest.
Insert high into the vagina and then do your usual pelvic floor exercises – repetitively squeezing and releasing – around the toner ball.
Change his thrusting style
This is an instant fix – and for some a life changer.
Instead of him using the traditional thrusting method of pulling out then penetrating deeply, switch to a grinding circular motion.
Get him to penetrate slowly, stopping every inch, to let you relax around him. Once he’s fully penetrated, keep your pelvises close and grind together in a circular motion.
He can put his hands under your buttocks to lift your bottom towards him – just make sure to keep the grinding slow and consistent.
Deep, hard, old-style thrusting is almost certainly going to cause pain if you have any issues.
Use a ‘buffer’
You can buy squishy rings that sit at the base of his penis to stop him penetrating deeply during intercourse.
If he’s wearing a buffer, he can thrust away without having to worry about going too deep, and you can relax, knowing it’s not going to hurt if he does get carried away.
‘Ohnut’ is one brand: nice and stretchy and formulated to prevent painful sex. It works very well.
Head to one of the large sex toy retailers and do a search online for a ‘bumper intimacy cushion’ or ‘mini-head stroker’ and you’ll see other choices.
You can also stack a few penis rings to make a larger one, which works on the same principle.
Again, this is an instant fix that can make a huge difference.
Add oestrogen if you’re pre or post-menopausal.
Oestrogen pessaries can make an enormous difference if vaginal dryness is causing the pain.
You could also ask your doctor if you’re suitable for an oestrogen ring which also helps to up the flexibility and thickness of the vaginal wall.

‘Stolen UK, US Banks’ Credit Card Info Found On Naira Marley’s Laptop’

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday heard that stolen credit card information issued by European, American and Latin American banks were retrieved from a laptop allegedly belonging to a musician, Azeez Fashola also known as Naira Marley.
An Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) forensics expert, Nuru Buhari told Justice Nicholas Oweibo that some of the credit card information belonged to four persons in the United Kingdom (UK) including one Nicole Louise.
Buhari testified as the EFCC’s first prosecution witness in Marley’s alleged card fraud trial which began on Tuesday.
The witness, who was led in evidence by EFCC counsel Rotimi Oyedepo, alleged that apart from the stolen information, the website visit history recovered from the device showed that the top five most visited sites dealt with buying and selling of stolen credit card information.
“During analysis, the cache file and history file revealed that the most frequently visited sites by the user of the computer include arder007.org, Zuni.sa, nationwidecheckbalance.co.uk, ferunshop.net AMD cocoa.co.uk.”
“Analysis of the websites revealed that web 1 is where stolen card information is sold to intending fraudsters, web 2 is for stolen credit cards specifically for the UK, web 3 is an online website designed for UK cardholders to check their balance wherever they are around the world, web 4 is a dark web meaning an underground tunnel in the internet where stolen credit card information are sold and traded, web 5 is an online shopping mall where members are given discounts for shopping from certain shops.”
He said stolen credit card information with special status that allows transaction up-to $12,000 without a pin or physical card was found in a file named select BIN 101.txt and .txt.
The witness added: “For the note file, two major files were discovered named .txt which contained about four credit card information belonging to four different personalities in the UK including one Nicole Louise. ”
“The second file is named selected BIN101.txt containing Bank Identification Number of European, American and Latin American banks.
“When we ran the BIN code search for the first six digits of the cards, it revealed they are Visa cards issued by Barclay’s bank, Sandander UK plc.”
Buhari testified that an analysis allowed his team to identify “certain banks in the US, Europe and Asia with certain peculiarities, these are banks that they issue credit cards without pins based on the high level of trust, they allow a transaction of up to $12,000 in a swipe on pos.
“Cards issued by those banks are card not required. All you need to execute a transaction is the card number and the CVV number. ”
According to him, suspicious apps that are mostly used by people with shady deals on the internet were found on the laptop.
“We analysed installed apps on the laptop and we found two apps that enables the owner of the computer to decide the server of a bank as to his identity and location, IP VANISH and TOR browser.
“The TOR browser is sometimes called the onion. Most of the criminals cover their tracks with various layers just like an onion using this app to make it near impossible for a tracker to track their location.
“The IP VANISH is a virtual private network (VPN) which provides that the actual computer and location of usage cannot be identified. It also gives the user the ability to change their location.”
The court heard further that an analysis of the administrator account on the laptop revealed that the admin is one Naira Marley and the account was connected to his iCloud account.
During the hearing, Oyedepo tendered the request for the analysis of the Apple Mac book Pro laptop, an iPhone allegedly confiscated from the defendant and the forensic laboratory report prepared by Buhari.
Justice Oweibo adjourned till Friday for cross-examination of the witness.
Fashola, popular for his “Am I a Yahoo Boy” and “Soapy” tracks, is being prosecuted by the EFCC on an 11-count charge of conspiracy, possession of counterfeit cards and fraud.
His co-defendant is one Yad Isril, said to still be at large.
The defendant was arraigned on May 20, 2019, but pleaded not guilty.
He secured N2 million bail with two sureties in the like sum.
According to the charge, the defendant committed the offences on different dates including November 26, 2018, December 11, 2018, and May 10,
Fashola and his accomplices allegedly conspired to use different Access Bank ATM Cards to defraud their victims.

Court Orders IGP, Police Commission To Stay Action On Recruitment

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday ordered the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, and the Police Service Commission to maintain status quo on the ongoing recruitment of 10,000 officers.
Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the order at the hearing of the case brought by the PSC against the IG.
The PSC had brought the matter before the court, asking it to stop Adamu from continuing the recruitment exercise for usurping the powers of the commission.
The PSC sought an interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants, their officers and representatives including anybody or person acting on their behalf from appointing, recruiting or attempting to appoint or recruit by any means whatsoever any person into any office in the first defendant pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
The Nigeria Police in its verified Twitter handle @PoliceNG had last week announced that members of the general public, particularly candidates who participated in the recruitment exercise were advised to note that the final list of successful candidates will be released only after the receipt of the Recruitment Report and final vetting of the list by the Inspector General of Police.
The court on Wednesday urged that all parties should stay within the bounds of the law until the matter is decided.
When the matter came up for hearing, Counsel to the three defendants, Alex Izinyon SAN sought to join the Attorney General of the Federation as fourth defendant in the matter, to which the lawyer to the PSC, Kanu Agabi SAN agreed and Justice Ekwo adopted.
Ekwo had gone ahead to give the plaintiff four days from the date of the order to amend, file and service the processes and the first to third defendants another four days upon service by the plaintiff to amend file and serve their processes.
The matter was adjourned till Nov. 4 for mention.
