President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the appointment of a new Inspector General of Police, Mohammad Abubakar Adamu, confirming the speculations in the local media since Monday.
The new Police chief, who was decorated at the State House, Abuja on Tuesday by the president replaced Ibrahim Idris who retired from the service effective on Tuesday.
Adamu will, however, serve in an acting capacity until his appointment confirms or another name in his stead by the president.

Earlier on Tuesday, the President and cabinet ministers had held an emergency Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.
The agenda of the meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa, was unknown.
Adamu’s appointment as the new Inspector-General of Police was without prior announcement by the Presidency.
Before he was named acting Police, Adamu was of the rank of assistant inspector general (AIG) of police, hails from Lafia, Nasarawa State and holds a BSc in Geography.
He enlisted into the Force on 1 February, 1986 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police
Until Tuesday, he was a Directing Staff at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State.
He was Commissioner of Police in Ekiti and Enugu States and also Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 5 Police Command Headquarters, Benin, Edo State.
