Nigeria, Africa's largest crude producer increased its oil production by around 9 percent in 2018 to 2.09 million barrels per day against 1.86 mbpd in the previous year, according to data from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The West African country and the eighth OPEC member largest producer earns around 90 percent income from crude export.
“Nigeria’s crude oil daily production recorded an upward swing of about 2.09 million barrels in outgone 2018 ... compared with the 2017 average daily production of 1.86 million barrels,” the NNPC said.
Nigeria has maintained “a line of consistent year-on-year improvement”, Group Managing Director Maikanti Baru said.
Baru had said in November that the country was producing 1.6 million bpd of oil and 0.4 million bpd of condensate.
“We are talking about the average for the year and this includes the condensate,” NNPC spokesman Ndu Ughamadu said when asked for details of the 2.09 million bpd production figure and the level of condensates.
