Nigeria's writer, Chimamanda’s ‘baby bump’ comments generate controversy

Nigeria's Award-winning writer, Chimamanda Ngozi-Adichie’s comment on the ‘baby bump’ trend has stirred a debate on the social media.
In a recent interview with UK’s Channel 4 News, the Nigerian writer, who lives in the United States, said that pregnancy is a sacred state that a woman ought to be discreet about.

According to her, this is the reason why she kept her pregnancy from public glare.
Chimamanda said, “I wanted my pregnancy to be something I shared with the people I love, with the people who know me. There is a kind of pregnancy as a trendy thing that I find very uncomfortable with and I deeply dislike expressions like ‘baby bump’.
“I find it very irritating. It was a very deeply introspective time, thinking about (how) my life is going to change forever and the enormousness of bringing a baby into the world. It was a sacred time for me and I wanted to share it with the people I love.”
Many Nigerians have gone on the social media to debate her comments, causing her name to trend on Twitter.

"Chimamanda is a woman with her own opinions..We all have that, Opinions I mean, you don't have to agree with hers, form yours and stick to it." Radio Olori said.

"Many of the Nigerian men  use Chimamanda as their feminist prototype .The "reasonable" feminist yet she's not free from feminist hate," says Nneokwu
