Ghana annual inflation rises to 14.7 pct in April -stats office

Ghana's annual rate of consumer price inflation rose to 14.7 percent in April from 14.5 percent in March, the West African nation's statistics office said on Wednesday.
That pushed it further past the 2014 target of 9.5 percent, plus or minus 2 percent, set by the government in its annual budget in November.
Price changes were mostly driven by depreciation of the local currency, said Baah Wadieh, deputy government statistician.
"The continued depreciation of the cedi as we have seen in recent weeks is also a major factor - our records indicate significant changes in the price of most imported items," he told a press conference in the capital Accra.
