President goodluck jonathan has sacked nine of his cabinet ministers in a reshuffle meant to consolidate his hold on power and rein dissention in the ruling party.

At a briefing after the usual cabinet meeting on Wednesday, a presidential spokesman said ministers of foreign affairs, education, science and technology, housing and urban development, national planning, and environment have been removed.
Also affected by the cabinet shakeup include the ministers of state - the junior minister for each office - for power, agriculture and defence.
This is president Jonathan first major cabinet shake-up since he was elected over two years ago.
According to the spokesman, those sacked will be replaced soon.
President Jonathan is current on the move to wade off crisis in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while most of the sacked ministers were said to have been recommended by some of the rebel-governor, the president handlers were said to be in favour of injecting new loyal part men and women to further strengthen his chance in the 2015 election.
